A squire is usually attached to a knight or any higher ranked noble. They start as a page, serving their sire/liege and later learn warfare. If the sire/liege is of higher rank than a simple knight, often its men at arms that teach these lessons.

Bearwins Baron happens to be a mage, so he learned quite a few pieces of obscure knowledge in addition to the skills that should make him a proper knight in a few years. If he survives the increased aggression of Orcs from the Dark Ridge Mountains.
