The Darkenguard protecting the Dark Ridge Mountains from Orc incursions are fairly recent newly established units that use older watchtowers that served the same purpose hundreds of years ago. Quite a few had to be repaired/refurbished to fulfil their purpose again.

In the Duchy of Weiden one of the units comprising the Darkenguard are the so called Blackshields. Named after their wooden shields painted black they are a mountain archer unit that for close combat use Axes, Maces and a short, waisted sword called Deercatcher with their shields.

They wear the knights helmet in white-grey (representing silver) on a green sash for the local count Emmeran of Lionshead which founded (and funded) the unit.

Olin Tanner is one of the younger recruits, but he is stronger than he looks and a nimble and enduring runner.
